Welcome to our summer newsletter

In this edition we highlight some key issues affecting green space across the country, how CFP are contributing to these and how we can help you to develop and delivery your projects.

Looking for money?

Two key sources of money available for improving green space are looking for new applications. The Community Spaces Programme is experiencing different levels of uptake across the English regions with areas such as our home in the West Midlands showing low levels of applications. If you have potential projects why not get in touch with CFP to help you scope the project and think through possible funding sources.

Thinking about Parks for People?

Marine Cove Sketch

As we head towards the final year of the current Parks for People programme many authorities are thinking about which projects to take forward and how the process differs from previous grant regimes. CFP are working with HLF nationally to develop a series of regionally based workshops to help you think through your project. We will be sending out more details shortly.

CFP have also recently submitted the first round 2 application under the new grant programme - read more here. We have also completed an exciting stage 2 submission for Priory Park, Dudley, so if you need help with your stage 2 bid or delivery stage please get in touch.

Decent homes need decent spaces

CABE Space are working on a new action plan for green space in social housing. Their recent research has shown that people who live in deprived areas are likely to have 5 times less public space than those in better off areas and also that the quality of the space that is provided is poor. CABE have been working with National Housing Federation and social landlords and CFP have been contributing to national workshops which have helped to shape the action plan.

Nature Nearby - no more angst

Natural England have published new guidance on accessible natural greenspace. They highlight a difficulty that we have been experiencing for years in greenspace audits namely the definition of natural and dealing with multi functional spaces that have a mosaic of habitat types. As always it will be interesting to see how urban areas measure against the quantity and accessibility elements of the standard.

Why not contact CFP - our experience in strategic planning goes back years, find out more here
