Coventry Green Space Strategy
In 2017 CFP were appointed by Coventry City Council to develop a 5 year Green Space Strategy.
Our commission to develop the new strategy included a comprehensive policy review and consultation. We worked with the Greenspace Service and the Planning Policy team to review the existing mapping dataset and identified gaps before advising on a suitable structure for data capture and classification. We carried out additional data capture using existing local authority datasets and OS Open Greenspace data. We also carried out a quality assessment of 264 green spaces to check the mapping data and build up a comprehensive picture of greenspace provision and quality across the City. We produced an extensive national and local policy review and a paper on alternative service delivery models, appraising differing delivery models. This latter task including applying the NT Future Parks financial model to Coventry using budgetary information for the service.
The strategy was based on extensive consultation and further workshops saw us seek feedback on the draft recommendations.
Outcomes and Results
The strategy defines current green space provision in terms of quantity, accessibility and quality, shows the geographical variation in quality and outlines future service delivery. The strategy also presents recommendations, an action plan and a risk management strategy. A number of KPIs have also been defined in order for the Council to measure their success and progress against the strategy over the next 5 years.
