Portfolio- West Smethwick Park – Interpretation

West Smethwick Park – Interpretation

Background

Sandwell Council had been successful in securing a Round 1 approval from HLF for West Smethwick Park, a Victorian park set in a very culturally diverse community. In the development phase they commissioned a multi disciplinary consultancy team of which CFP were part.

Our Role

CFP were commissioned to lead on a variety of tasks including consultation, activity planning, business planning and technical support.

In response to our activity planning work and historical research the council commissioned us to lead on the production of an interpretation plan to support the Round 2 bid.

Outcomes and Results

We explored eras of development and created three main themes that would run across interpretation and activity planning alike.

We established target audiences and ensured that the proposals were relevant to them.

We designed visitor welcome and orientation proposals, developed a new nature trail to be delivered with local school input and our most creative element was developing community arts projects that would enliven the new pavilion and link back to the park’s benefactor industrial heritage in glass ware.
