Burslem Park
The Client
Stoke-on-Trent City Council
The Background
CFP were commissioned as part of a wider consultancy team to develop both the Stage 1 and Stage 2 bids to the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks for People grant programme for Burslem Park.
Burslem Park is a Grade II listed Victorian park comprising of 9 hectares (22 acres). Opened in 1894, it was originally laid out by Thomas H Mawson, and created from an area of derelict industrial land with pit shafts and cinder heaps.
The Objective
CFP took a leading role in engaging with the local community in identifying issues of concern relating to the restoration of Burslem Park and feeding these in to the planning process. CFP were also responsible for developing the Access Plan, Audience Development Plan, 10 Year Management and Maintenance Plan and
Training Plan. At Stage 2 we updated these plans and also produced an Education Policy, Volunteer Action Plan and Interpretation Plan.
Just add CFP
CFP used their extensive experience in consultation to undertake a household survey to gather the views of users and non-users. This work was complemented by detailed desk research and consultation with key stakeholders before being analysed and incorporated into the various documents that formed part of the authority’s bid for grant funding. Additional support was provided with the application form itself.
The Result
Stoke-on-Trent City Council was successful in their Stage2 submission for a £2 million grant which was approved in March 2010. The main contract has now been tendered and works will start in Spring 2011.
