The Background
CFP were commissioned as part of a wider consultancy team to develop a stage 1 bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks for People grant programme for Pittville Park.
The Park is a Grade 2 Listed public park which was opened in 1825 and is situated to the north of Cheltenham Town Centre. The Park has a total area of approximately thirty four hectares and provides a wide range of amenities including children’s playground, aviary, lawns and recreational areas, lakes, footpaths, café and kiosk and toilet facilities. The Park also benefits from the historic Grade 1 Listed Pump Room, which hosts a wide range of public events.
The Objective
CFP were initially appointed to write the Audience Development Plan, 10 Year Management and Maintenance Plan, Training Plan and project management support.
Following a change of scope late on in the project, CFP were engaged to undertake stakeholder consultation to support the production of the plans and also delivered both a Business Plan for the income generating aspects of Pittville Park, Cheltenham and an Access Plan of the Park.

CFP have been involved in many HLF grant applications and were able to draw on this familiarity to deliver the original brief and, when necessary, identify and provide additional resources. CFP were able to build capacity through a network of specialist sub-consultants, all of whom share the same passion about parks and green spaces.
The Result
Cheltenham Borough Council was able to submit a thorough application which takes a holistic approach to managing the park.
