Our Director, Ian Baggott, was pointed a Mentor to this fascinating project. The £4m restoration of Lews Castle Grounds forms the setting for the Castle restoration project worth around £10m. The Grounds are owned by The Stornoway Trust, a publicly owned estate created when the land was gifted by Lord Leverhulme, the former owner of much of the Isle of Lewis. The Stornoway Trust are partners along with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Ian is working with both organisations to help guide them through the development stage. Ian is also working as part of a joint monitoring team created to link the restoration of the grounds and the castle together.
Ian’s work has mostly focused on technical advice, having been through the development and delivery stages of so many parks projects Ian has helped to flag up potential issues, help with recruiting project managers, design teams and activity planners and help the partners think through who they will go about delivering the project if the Round 2 award is successful.
Ian is also proving advice to the partners around a Transition Funding project to help the Stornoway Trust deliver a process of organisational change in order to be in a better place to look after their heritage asset in the future
